Val on this one
What to say when she says she's tired
"ugh im so tired." Three words, and suddenly you're wondering if that's her way of ending the conversation. Usually it isn't. Usually it means she's tired.
What it usually means
Most of the time it's literal. Long shift, bad sleep, a day that ran her over. She's telling you because she's comfortable enough to complain to you, which is a good thing. Sometimes it's a soft "I don't have the energy to text right now," which is also fine. Very rarely it's a polite exit, and if it is, it'll show up as a pattern, not one night.
How to tell which one
- She keeps talking after. She's tired, not done with you. Keep it light.
- Short replies, no questions back. She's low on battery. Wrap it up warmly.
- "tired" every night for a week and no plans happen. That's a pattern. Read how to tell if she's losing interest.
Don't do these
- Don't ask "are you mad at me?" Now her tired is your problem to fix.
- Don't fire off five questions to keep it going. She just told you she's out of gas.
- Don't one up her. "you think you're tired, i worked 12 hours." Nobody wins that.
- Don't go quiet in a sulk. She'll feel it.
What to send instead
Something short, kind, and a little playful. Acknowledge it, give her an easy out, and if you want, a reason to look forward to talking to you tomorrow. Letting her go to bed is weirdly one of the most attractive things you can do. It says you're not keeping score.
Texts you can send
go to bed lol. tell me about the day tomorrow, i want the full saga
tired is allowed. the couch has been officially reserved for you
sounds like a lot. hope you get to do nothing for a while tonight
no worries, rest up. thursday instead?
A woman's read
When I tell a guy I'm tired, I'm not testing him. I just am. The guy who says "go to bed, tell me tomorrow" makes me smile on my way to sleep, and I usually text him first the next day. The guy who keeps poking, or asks if I'm upset with him, makes my tired feel like a job. Make it easy for her to rest and she'll associate you with feeling good, not feeling on.
The move
Reply with one short, warm line that lets her off the hook, and maybe a hook for tomorrow. Then actually let the conversation end. Text her tomorrow like nothing happened, because nothing did.
If you had plans tonight
If "I'm tired" comes with a cancel, don't guilt her and don't drop it either. Say no worries, and offer one new day. If she picks it, great. If she doesn't, see what to text when she cancels a date.
Questions guys ask
What does it mean when a girl says she's tired over text?
Usually that she's tired. It can mean she doesn't have energy for a long chat tonight. Only a pattern of tired plus no plans for weeks suggests she's losing interest.
How do I reply when she says she's tired?
Short and kind. Acknowledge it, let her go rest, and give her something light to pick up tomorrow, like "go to bed, tell me about it tomorrow."
Is "I'm tired" a brush off?
Not from one time. If she keeps chatting after, it isn't. If every conversation ends that way and she never makes time to meet, take the hint.
Should I keep texting after she says she's tired?
No. One warm reply, then let it end. Pushing makes the conversation feel like work.
