Val on this one
She said she's not ready for a relationship
Val's straight answer
When she likes you but says she's not ready, she's telling you the timing or her head isn't right, not that you're wrong. Ask her what "ready" would look like, give it a real but limited window, and protect yourself if the window keeps sliding.
This isn't the first-date version. You've been seeing each other for weeks, maybe months. You asked where this is going and she said: "i really like you, i'm just not ready for a relationship right now."
What she's actually thinking
This one is usually true, and that's what makes it hard. It often means:
- She's freshly out of something and doesn't trust her own feelings yet.
- Her life is in a big transition (new city, new job, school).
- She's scared of how much she likes you, and pulling the label slows it down.
- Less often, she likes you but not enough to commit, and "not ready" is gentler than "not sure about you."
If you ask me, the tell is whether she still acts like your girlfriend in everything but name. If she does, it's usually fear or timing. If she's already pulling back, it's the last one.
What reddit says vs what works
The online advice here leans hard toward "she's not ready for a relationship with *you*," and "leave immediately, she'll be in one with someone else in a month." That does happen, and I won't pretend it doesn't. But leaving the second you hear it can also walk you away from someone who just needed three more months.
What works is a real conversation, not a test. Ask, don't argue.
What to say
In person if you can. Calm, no ultimatum yet:
Texts you can send
i hear you. can i ask what ready would look like for you? no pressure, i just want to understand
i like what we have and im not trying to rush you. i do want a relationship eventually, just so youre not guessing
What not to say:
- "so what are we then?" five minutes after she explained.
- "i'll give you two weeks" as a threat.
- Nothing at all, while quietly resenting it.
When to walk away
Give it a real window that you choose, not one she sets. A couple of months is fair. If nothing has moved by then, or she's clearly fine with things staying vague forever, say it kindly: "i really like you, but i want a relationship and i can't wait without knowing." That's not a bluff. It's you respecting yourself.
A woman's read
When I've said "I'm not ready" and meant it, the guys who made me feel safe just kept being steady. They didn't sulk and they didn't beg. One of them told me clearly what he wanted and then stopped bringing it up, and that's exactly what made me stop being scared of it.
Questions guys ask
What does it mean when she says she likes me but isn\'t ready for a relationship?
Usually timing, a recent breakup, or fear of moving fast. Sometimes it is a gentle way of saying she is not sure about you. Her actions over the next weeks tell you which.
How long should I wait for her to be ready?
Pick your own window, often a couple of months. If nothing changes, tell her what you want and step back.
Should I keep seeing her?
If you can enjoy it without resentment for now, yes. If waiting is eating you, be honest and step away.
